Popjam Productions are proud to announce that Mother, Wife and the Complicated Life, written by Amity Dry, was staged at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 17 March 2014. The musical ran as a side event to the Commission for the Status of Women Conference, an annual international conference focused on womens issues and rights. It was a significant achievement for writer and producer Amity Dry to see the musical, which she premiered as a one-woman show in the 2009 Adelaide Fringe Festival, staged in such a prestigious international event.
“Mother, Wife and the Complicated Life is a celebration of women. It’s an honest reflection of our strengths and challenges and deals with subjects that aren’t typically seen in musical theatre. I have been incredibly humbled by the success of the show to date and the way it’s been embraced by Australian audiences. Now to perform it at the UN at the time there’s an international conference focused on promoting women’s empowerment is absolutely thrilling,” Amity Dry said.
The United Nations performance stemmed from the recent showcase of Mother, Wife and the Complicated Life in the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) in July 2013. The show was selected from hundreds of submissions worldwide to perform at NYMF, the leading international Festival for unearthing new musical theatre works. Since this showcase the musical has been licensed to perform in Europe in 2015 and an extensive Australian tour is in development.
